Hi everyone,

I’m exploring whether it’s possible to add a “Reserve Item” button underneath the standard accelerated checkout options (like Apple Pay).

The idea is to let customers go through checkout as normal — entering their shipping and payment details — but instead of paying immediately, the order would be reserved and the payment automatically collected on a specific future date (e.g., the date of a draw or product release).

It’s not quite a “Buy Now, Pay Later” setup, but more like how Nike SNKRS handles product reservations or pre-authorised payments when a user is selected.

Essentially, I’d like to offer a “Reserve Ticket” option where customers commit in advance, but the charge isn’t processed until the draw date.

Does anyone know if this can be achieved using Shopify’s native tools or through any third-party apps? We’re currently using Stripe as our payment gateway, so I wonder if pre-authorised payments could be integrated that way.

Any insights or suggestions would be really appreciated.

To answer your question directly: no, this is not possible with Shopify’s native tools. Shopify’s checkout is built to capture payment immediately, not to authorize it for a future date.

However, you can achieve this exact “Nike SNKRS” style flow by using a specialized raffle or product draw app from the Shopify App Store. These apps are designed for this. They integrate with Stripe to pre-authorize a customer’s payment method when they “Reserve” the item. On your specified draw date, the app then automatically instructs Stripe to capture the payment for only the winners and void the holds for everyone else.
